BRCN Network Problems
Posted Thursday, October 2, 2003 by jeremy
Just another one of my "quick notes" to let you know that we had problems with viruses again this evening that caused many users to have trouble logging onto the system. For those of you that could log on, you probably noticed very slow surfing speeds.

We have taken actions to remove users from the system that appear to have viruses and/or abnormal volumes of traffic. We again want to remind you that if you want to be on the Internet, you MUST have antivirus software. We recommend Norton AntiVirus, which is available online at http://www.symantec.com or at Wal-mart, OfficeMax and most other software retail stores. If you do not have antivirus software and have been on the Internet for more than 1 day, chances are you have a virus.

Thank you again for your patience and support of BRCN. We will keep you informed of actions taken to ensure the continued integrity of our network.

Users and Viruses
Posted Thursday, October 2, 2003 by jeremy
This is just a quick note to inform you all that the outages this past weekend appear to have been caused by viruses from our users. We are currently combing through reports to try to determine exactly what users have viruses.

Because viruses can affect the entire network, and not just your local machine, we may be forced to temporarily disconnect users that are found to have infected computers.

Please take the time today to make sure that you have antivirus software installed on all computers you use, and that that antivirus is up-to-date. Antivirus programs should be updated on a daily basis.

Thank you,
